Well I've always been a bit good at cocking things up but this is bad even for me. Just finished doing the heatsink mod on my failed 360 and it worked! Yay :D So I figured since i had already voided the warranty and had it open, Ill cut a hole out and stick a fan in the lid over the heatsink.
I measured out where the 65mm fan would fit perfect between heatsink and dvd drive, found a point to measure from and started scratching out a circle with a metal compass. After about an hours scratching i got right through the case with a near perfect circle.
Great, I thought, Ill just blu tac the fan on the underside and pop the lid on to check it was ok, aaaaaand ive cut the whole on the wrong side of the point i marked out. So now I have a lovely neat hole in the lid directly over the DVD drive.

OH WELL.............................................:p

Ok the quality is bad cos my proper cameras out of batteries so i used my phone.
Anyway,

The fan was supposed to sit in the red square shown here:

Pretty nicely cut round hole eh?

Aaaaand here you can see that a fan in this hole would nicely cool my DVD drive...

I think Im gonna just stick a fan grill on it and cut another hole :p

Dam it! I want a coffee cup holder on my 360. :D

You could just get a faulty 360 and pinch it's shell or get a new a pimped out new 360 case.

Great thread, that really sounds like something id do.

I was getting my kitchen relaid with tiles and had to cut a bit of my door off to make it fit, i cut it off and went to put it on, only to realise i had cut the top not the bottom, so it still didnt fit, i had to do it again and ended up with an inch hole at the top of the door.

Top man! Everyone makes noob mistakes like this so you shouldn't feel bad about it. When my launch day 360 RRoD around Feb 08 I lost my rag trying to get the 360's casing off so I just went at the back clips with pliers. That didn't even losen the thing so I just ripped the case apart with my hands! I took the heatsink off, applied some thermal paste and a custom heatsink and the bugger was back to normal.
