I am trying to install Ubuntu from a USB stick on a spare HD that I have installed on my computer.

I am following all the guidelines from the Ubuntu website, creating an ISO on the USB using the 'Universal USB Installer' but when I go into the boot menu by pressing F12 on the splash screen, I get a list of drives, but when I select the USB it just goes back and boots me into windows from the C:\ drive.

I have tried this on 2 different USB sticks now, I'm slightly perplexed. Any Ideas? Motherboard info is in my sig.

Thanks

That Ubuntu is pretty easy to use and foolproof AFAIR. You are trying it on the USB 2.0 ports on the back, right? USB3 may not be bootable. On my Gigabyte (old G41 board so the BIOS is probably a lot different from a Z77 one), F12 will list USB flash drives under HDDs - not that obvious but basically the HDDs become a submenu.

None of these work, they all seem to fail and throw me back to default which is W7.

Via google it seems that some gigabyte boards have issues with USB formatting. You may have to reformat via on of the available tools.

All installed now. I ended up disconnecting my C:\ drive and it wouldn't detect any boot media, so I had to make a trip to buy some DVD's and that ended up working fine.

Bit of a pain though.
