Can't boot into Ubuntu after fresh install

First, I'm not sure if this is really in the correct section but it's all revolving around me installing Ubuntu on a new hard drive so I guess it would fit in here.

Second, I'm not a massive Linux/Unix/Ubuntu expert, I've been doing some CentOS and Ubuntu server stuff at Uni and for other things but it's probably best to keep any answers simple as I'm still a noob at this.

I recently installed Ubuntu 13.04 on an old hard drive I had, everything installed correctly. I ensured it would run properly by running a live version before installing etc.

When it came to boot the computer up again after the install and removing the installation media the computer just defaulted into Windows. I assumed I'd just have to hit F12 and choose to boot from my other HDD (the one I installed Ubuntu on) but when ever I select it, it just starts up windows?

No matter what option I choose on the bios boot menu (I've only got 2 HDD's and my disk tray) it just boots up windows, no error messages or anything.

I've tried a disk check using the Ubuntu installation media again and I've tried a fresh install checking I installed everything correctly. When I did this with a friend on his computer we just got the option of which OS to boot before any OS was loaded. I'm not getting any of that.

I've gone into the BISO to check the boot order and see about switching it around but my Ubuntu HDD isn't on the list, like it is on the boot menu.

Any help would be much appreciated =)

Okay then a little update, I've also gone back and re-installed Ubuntu because none of this was working. Grub2 should be installed with Ubuntu as I understand and when I attempted to boot into it, I ended up in a Grub2 console interface with some "limited bash commands".

I've tried using EasyBCD on the Ubuntu partition, I've tried setting it to Grub Legacy, Grub 2, and tried using EasyBCD's version of Grub but I'm just getting the same thing.

I could take a picture if that would help (or report what I get on the screen). I've re-downloaded the iso image and attempted a re-install encase the install was corrupt or something but I'm getting no where and I'm not really sure what to try next.

Any more advice guys or gals?
