So I have a HDD with windows 7 on it. Been using it for years.
Recently got an SSD and installed windows 10 on it. (I had the HDD completely disconnected for the whole install).
I've reconnected my HDD now and its there in BIOS and as a visible drive in windows (10) but I can't for the life of me boot to it!? I've changed the boot priority dozens of times, dozens of ways but it ALWAYS boots to the SSD. Even if I disable the SSD in the boot menu! What am I doing wrong?

OK what the hell. I eventually got it to boot to the HDD (don't ask me how). And then I couldn't get it back to booting to the SSD! 15 times I tried. Eventually I thought I had it nailed. Selecting "windows boot manager SSD" from F11 boot menu. for the SSD and HDDSTxxxxxxxxxx for the hard drive. Yay! Except....the keyboard and mouse now won't work when I boot windows 7 on the HDD so I can't login....seriously WTF???

OK, thank god I think I finally have it. Weirdest thing. I have to hit "del" to get into Bios. Then, to boot to HDD I have to set Boot order to HDD first, then go into a different menu and disable "windows boot manager" (whatever the hell that is). THEN I have to save and exit bios, then hit F11 into mini boot choice menu and select HDD. Then I get windows 7 with keyboard and mouse.

To boot to the SSD I have to hit "del" change boot order. Re-enable windows boot manager, save, exit and hit F11 and choose SSD.

I mean I have no idea why its like that but it seems to be working, I can boot to either system now. (I think). Further testing tommorrow.

Seems like a lot of faffing about just to boot into the other system. I can recall having the option in windows to choose between Win 7 or Win 8.1. I just had to select which OS I wanted to use and it would boot straight up, no messing about in the bios.

Could the Windows 10 have been installed in UEFI bios and Windows 7 in Legacy bios?

Purely speculation. Not even sure if this is possible as i had to alter settings in bios to change to UEFI.
