Hi, big prob with my pc (or could be a very small one.. not sure :S)

Yesterday my pc was fine, hadn't had a problem in weeks. Then i moved it home from my uni house last night. Plugged it in when i got home and it won't boot.

I get the standby led on, and when i press the power switch, the DRAM power led comes on, but that is it. The diagonostic LEDs dont even flicker.

Although once i tried it and the fans spun for a moment, and the diagnostic LEDs flicked on, although it wasn't long enough to see how many had lit, also after this the PSU fan carried on turning, although the rest of the system hadn't booted.

I'm pretty sure the pc didnt get knocked about on the journey home, it was surrounded by pillows and had a seat belt around it. The only thing i can think of which may have damaged it is my monitor - its an older TFT which i haven't used for a while - possibly could have shorted?

Also i used a power lead which splits in 2 to power both the monitor and the PC, although i don't see why this would make a difference, just listing everything i can thing of. See Specs in sig

Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong?

Cheers

Yeah i've just started stripping everything out, i'm beginning to think it may be a dodgy power switch though :S

ah well, hopefully this will sort it

cheers :)

Nah, stripped it down to cpu ram and video card and it's still doing the same thing..

anyone have any suggestions?

done and done, nothing still, i even tried booting with just the ram in to see if i could get a beep - still nadda :(

I've just read some threads on DFI street (also posted the same thing over there) about someone having problems with getting the system to boot at all.. he called it cold booting problems.. which I guess is what i have.

Someone suggested it could be the PSU not working properly.. think hes right?

Or should i start thinking about RMAing my mobo?

PSU seems ok.. i'll try and get a spare from a m8 to test with. I've taken the CMOS battery out, so i'm gonna leave it for a few hours to make sure it clears.

Cheers for your help :)

Yeah good call on that.. i just found a nice post on dfi street about clearing it the correct way, so have followed that now - i left it for an hour or so but it still won't boot after the cmos clear. Guess ill have to leave it for 8+ then try it.

Pretty sure itll be an RMA on the mobo tho :(

just filled in the RMA request - just hope it is the mobo causing the problem!

The monitor seems ok - just put it on this system instead and its fine!

Cheers for the help anyway :)

Just had to be sure it wasn't the PSU so i put it into an old PC i had - which worked with the dusty old enermax it had in it. Put the hiper in and it wouldnt boot.. same thing as the other system.

So i guess it was the Hiper PSU all along - guess ill have to RMA this instead!
