My computer has been running fine for a couple of months, i just flashed the bios to the latest (1.B) from 1.8 through live update and it appears to have been successful, I can do anything in the bios and it works but i cant get windows to boot. I cant start from either my SSD or HDD, i get to the starting windows screen and it locks up. start up repair also locks up after loading windows files. Also booting from the windows DVD locks up as well, both the win7 one and the vista one

So has the bios failed? if so how do i switch to the second one?

my specs:
i5 2500k @ stock
MSI p67 GD65
4GB hyper x genesis @ stock
OCZ vertex 2 60GB
AX 850

thanks in advance

Only thing i can think of is if you had it on AHCI, when you updated the bios it has probably gone back to IDE. Don't know if it would affect the dvd drive though.

i've tried re-flashing to 1.b again and same thing, tried 1.a also and same thing... ahci wasn't the problem either

RMA time?

Firstly never, ever flash your BIOS from within Windows. Always use the utility provided in the BIOS.

From the MSI FAQ:

What is Multi-BIOS?

Multi-BIOS is a new function for MSI Motherboard that will allow the 2nd BIOS to help rescue the first BIOS in cases wherein the first BIOS is destroyed.

Is it possible to get Multi BIOS damage if system failed while updating BIOS?

No, only the 1st BIOS chip will be use during BIOS update, the 2nd BIOS chip will only serve as a backup in case the first BIOS was corrupted.

How can I recover my failed BIOS?

Go to the ClickBIOS -- > Security -- > Multi-BIOS Auto Update – Set to ENABLED And then save and exit.

System will then help recover the 1st BIOS and you need to wait until the whole BIOS recover is finished.

Good luck.

thanks but i have that enabled...the bios doesn't thinks its broken so it wont recover from the second BIOS

Have you tried clearing the CMOS since you updated the BIOS?

or

Have you tried loading a profile with your settings from before you flashed (the BIOS)?

Could be that the BIOS has updated successfully, but in the process, corrupted Windows. If you can't boot from the DVD, try from a USB flash drive.

Were there any settings you had manually set in the BIOS before you updated it?

You'll need to set these again if you haven't aleady.

I would suggest setting memory timings, speed and voltage manually and see if it boots then.

i've set all the settings back to how they were and no difference...if my windows install has corrupted how would i fix it? or can i

First, try taking the HDD out of the defective system and put it into a working build. Unplug all the other hard drives except for this one and see if it loads. If it doesn't, then Windows is corrupted. You should be able to reinstall normally here, because I am presuming that your DVD drive works on this system?

If it does load however, it must be something from your other build. That is when things start to get a little trickier.

If you can't boot from the DVD then I don't think you can.

Have you changed the boot order in the BIOS?

I assume the SSD was the boot drive so have you set this as the first boot device?

If that fails try flashing back to the version you had before trying 1.b and 1.a.
