Can't boot with new CPU

Hi All,

I've recently upgraded a PC from a 1.8 celeron, to a Q9550 quad core, and for some reason it wont get past the initial bios screen, it's shows the CPU type, then says 'Memory', but where it normally displays the amount of RAM, it just stops.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte ga-945gcm-s2l, the Q9550 is on the compatibility list.

The PC boots up fine with the old celeron in it, and I've tried resetting the bios.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could cause this? Does ram need to be compatible with the cpu or something?

Slightly stumped, any help would be appreciated!

Oh ****. I've just seen it on the list and assumed it was compatible, I didn't even look at the columns. ********. Why do they mention CPU's that aren't compatible?

Fail. I'm an idiot.

Its easily done especially when there are several revisions of the same board.

On the plus side tho you should be able to pick up a cheap P45 board now :)

That's true, have calmed down now!

So I need a new motherboard, with an intel chipset, on-board graphics (vga prefferable), 5 or more sata2 connections and support for the q9550 CPU. Too google!

Thanks peeps.:)
