Can't change product key!

So I followed the advice given and installed a fresh Windows 8.1 using a placeholder key. I have now moved to change that key to my official Windows 8 key and it wont let me!! What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it. Getting so ****** off with this.

Is it telling you something along the lines of key being used? You might have to use the free telephone activation if not activating online.

A windows 8 key is not a windows 8.1 key.
You will need to do the phone auth, or mail MS.

I did a clean install of windows 8.1 and used a temp key to install, once installed I changed to the key from the bios and activated without any issues at all and this came with windows 8 installed originally.

tested with a SSD as well and again no issues with activating.

is it giving you any errors? how far are you able to get when changing the key? normally there is a button that says change key, click on this and put in your key and press ok, will the activate.

Thanks fixed as reinstalling 8 and doing what I know works
