Just bought a new samsung monitor.

Works fine in HDMI 1 port at 1440p but no option to change past 60hz

Put the cable into HDMI 2 and it goes to 144hz but flashes, why ?

video card should support HDMI 2.0 which is enough for 1440p/165Hz
check monitor manual if it also supports HDMI 2.0. Could be limited to HDMI 1.4, then yes, you will need DP.

I tried the other HDMI port and it went to 144hz but was flickering like mad.

I'll get a DP cable

Which spec should I get ?

Just get any Displayport cable, you can look at Vesa certified if you'll be going to higher than 144hz at 2k or higher resolution at any point

ok thanks.

In the manual it does say it supports 1440p 144hz with HDMI 2. But it doesn't
I hope the display port one works.

I changed freesync in the monitors settings to " Ultimate " and now it's much better. However only running at 120hz and ocasional flicker.

I have a display port cable on order, hopefully that sorts it

In the monitors menu it says its running at 144hz, however in windows it says 120hz - really odd.

Hope the DP cable works when I get it

Is it a decent HDMI cable? I've found they can vary quite wildly and it does have an effect like this.

It's the brand new one which came with the monitor.
I tried my old HDMI cable which I was using prior to installing the monitor and that one wouldn't work whatsoever.

How long is the cable? I have found copper Displayport cables can get twitchy after about 3m; I don't know about HDMI. I would get a high grade Displayport 1.4 cable. You've spent a lot of money on the monitor and you've spent a lot of money on your PC, so why scrimp on the connection between the two? You don't need to buy fibre-optic cables like I did.

The standard one which it came with so probably about 1.5meters ?
The DP cable I ordered is 2 meter as the 1 meter was not in stock

I bought this one...

hope its ok at 144hz

Tried gaming CSGO and was getting ocasional red lines horizontally and every minute or so the screen would go black. No problems otherwise.

What GPU are you using? I've had cards in the past that have issues on some ports but not other, obviously faulty behaviour.

3060ti fe

has 1x HDMI and 3xDisplay Ports

I've never tried DP before. Will try when I get the cable

100hz no problems at all gaming etc

Got the KabelDirekt DP cable. Seems 100% so far on 144hz. Not tried gaming yet

144hz is awesome, so much better than 60hz and even 100hz
