Hi All

I am on a budget upgrade and for the money.

I could go 1155 MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) mobo with the Intel Core i7-2600 3.40GHz (Sandybridge)

Or I could go for the Asus P7P55D-E Intel P55 (Socket 1156) with the Intel Core i7 870 2.93Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1156)

I havent looked at upgrading for a good few years so I am out of touch with all this.
To me the second option sounds like the better but the Mobo choice seems very limited and I dont know the socket differences and advantages.
Given the above options what would you recommend??

Thanks

The MSI board is a P67 board - which supports current generation "sandy bridge" intel processors.

The ASUS is a P55 board - which supports last generation "nahalem" intel processors.

Hence the best option is the P67 board and the on e you mention also supports SLI and CF at "full" x8/x8 speeds.

As for the CPU, don't go with the "i7 2600", go for the only slightly more expensive "i7 2600K" as this CPU can overclock properly (in fact, if you buy the OEM version it is the same price as the retail non-K version).

What would you be doing with the PC? Will you overclock?

+1 to these questions
