The gf recently got an HTC hero as an upgrade on her contract with 3. So far, it's been great, but there's a strange issue that's cropped up recently.

The browser cannot connect to any SSL site. Nor can the Gmail app (which uses SSL). Any attempt to go to https://gmail.com, http://paypal.com etc. from the browser give a message that says "Data connectivity problem. A secure connection could not be established".

Any non-encrypted website works perfectly fine, and the SSL problem only occurs on the mobile network. It's fine over wifi.

The support people at three around going round in circles trying to get her to install opera mini. Having gone and downloaded and installed it from the marketplace, I can confirm that opera can't even make basic http-only connections over 3g (again, works on wifi).

Anyone any idea what the problem is?
