Vista or xp??

go start> run> cmd (enter)

on dos screen go ipconfig /all

you should see something like that:

H:\>ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : XXXXX
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-XX-XX-XX-XX-E1

u got internet then and your dns works ok cause it translates the google address to IP correctly
its your browser thats causing the problem

check your proxy settings in explorer tools> internet options> connections
LAN settings...
make sure the only options is AUTO detect
restart browser
test

if failure then try getting mozzila downloaded on the other pc and install on the acer and test

to be onest i am empty at this stage I would think some service not running or a virus, i dont know i am guessing.

you said it was wireless. just to be on the safe side try with the ethernet cable plugged in directly to your router

Nothing is running ?

I found these instructions for you:

1 If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
2 Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
3 Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
4 Ensure that the Safe mode with network option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

I am not sure if you wireless will work in safe mode with network therefore try with Ethernet cable

I have tried it in safemode and I get the same problem

2 last things
run msconfig froms start menu run..
got to startup disable all

restart

still not working??

crate another windows user account and log in

what now??
still not working??

no clue

sugesting rebuild as the investigation time so far have exceeded the windows instalation time

i had a similar problem recently. Tried absolutely everything but nothing worked so i had to format and reinstall windows...a pain but it sorted the problem. Sorry i can't help any more than that

I've come across similar types of problems before, was down to firewalls. I'd make sure your firewall isn't blocking port 80, even if your running windows firewall still disable it for now.

Just to make sure.
