problem seems to be "encryption type" heres a pic of the options

no matter which i choose when i get to encryption key im not sure what to put in, when i try the network key its stil wont work.

anyone offer any advice to get this working?

thanks

does it say on the bt hub what type of encryption its using? probably the default i'm guessing... or check the network connection properties of a pc that is working, it should tell you the type of encryption which will point you in the right direction hopefully

im actually trying to get it working using the sky connection, the pic show the BT as i just clicked on 1 to get a pic of the options, just using the default setting.

Oh ok, i've never seen what sky provide but like all the others surely it has the default settings on the router/hub? unless someone has re-configured it of course...

did you check a working laptop/pc?

Sky tend to use WPA encryption for their wifi, or at least mine came with WPA and so did my MUm's some 4 years later.

The card you have only seems to support WEP 64bit or 128bit keys.

So you have a few options.

1) configure the sky router to use WEP 128bit encryption which is not very secure at all.

2) get a USB wifi dongle instead of that ancient card.

3) try updating the card's firmware/driver in the hope they've added WPA encryption

4) Not have Internet on the laptop.

i can connect to the internet if i disable the security on the router.

Not wise. As previously said your card is too old and does not support WPA/WPA2 encryption (standard these days).

Your best bet is to get a new USB or PCMCIA card that does or lower the encryption level to to WEP bearing in mind that you will need to reconfigure every other device that connects to the router.

i know its not wise i was only trying to see if i could get it to work, I'll let him know he'll need to fork out for a new'un, whether he will or not i don't know as like i mentioned its just his spare.
