Cant connect to Live

Just got a 360 using direct 360 to ntl broadband 2 gig connection.

It fails when it comes to the ip test.

I tried changing the mac address to the same as the modem,still the same.

Tried a spare modem I have and it sailed through the IP address but then failed at UMT.

Any ideas please.

Does using a router by pass the problem of using the same modem for xbox and PC?

You shouldn't need to change the MAC address I don't think.

A router usually is the best bet, as you can have the internet on both your PC and Xbox then. Are you using the ethernet cable that came with the 360 to connect with the modem?
 
when connecting straight to the modem do you need a patch or cross over cable? i cant remember :(

But yeah, a router would be your best bet. i use one with a 2meg ntl (virgin media as it is now) and had zero problems
