A colleague complained about the wireless point in his classroom recently so I had a look at it yesterday. I had a laptop nearby which had connected to the wireless point at 1Mb which explained why my colleague couldn't connect any devices for his class.

I was unable to connect to it with its configured settings so I reset it to its factory settings. There is a note on the back of the device to say its default IP address is 192.168.0.232. I can't connect to the device with that IP address.

I have used Advanced IP Scanner to search for all active devices and I can't find that device's MAC address anywhere, either on our IP range, or in the 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.255 range.

The device is plugged into both mains and network and has lights flashing on the front of the device. I can also see NETGEAR_11a-0 and NETGEAR_11g-0 on my phone but I can't connect to the device on my phone so it seems that the lights are on but no-one is home.

Any ideas how I can find a way to log into the device to try re-configuring it and seeing if that sorts the device out? It is 8 years old so I'm willing to replace it if I need to but I want to make sure I've done everything possible to try to get it to work before I write it off.
