Can't connect to the internet

Hi guys

Just installed my Asus P5N-E motherboard with E6600 and 2gb ram. I've slapped a fresh hard drive in and I've just reinstalled Windows XP Pro.

I've installed the motherboard drivers (latest ones, put on USB stick from this PC) and it seems to recognise a network adapter.

However, I've plugged the cable in but it still can't connect to the internet. Everything is exactly the same as before and the modem it's plugged into works fine on other PCs. I don't understand why it's not connecting. It seems to be seeing something and giving me some random IP that isn't what it should be.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I don't think I can help but when I couldn't logon the other week after a reinstall the only thing that worked for me was to turn the router of for a few mins.
