I bought a netbook some months ago, and it connected to the net fine (Tiscali, or is it TalkTalk now, btw), and then about 3 weeks ago it just stopped connecting.

This was around the same time that another computer I have (which also uses wireless) was having issues connecting to the router, but I sorted that by setting up a passphrase and then putting in a 64 bit code, and that now connects.

The netbook though doesn't seem to connect now. It finds the router no problem, and then I click on it to connect, it says connecting for ages, then a pop up appears saying "connected", but in the previous window it says "not connected", and when I tried to connect to a webpage it msn messenger it won't connect. When I do the trouble shooter thing with msn messenger, it says "Your gateway appears to be offline".

I've gone into the advance settings for the Tiscali connection on the netbook, and it's setup as WEP and Open, and I've put in the 64 bit key, as with the other computer, but it doesn't seem to work.

reading more of what happened, you have probably picked the wrong encryption, if you can work out how to do it delete the wireless network from the list on ones your machine knows, it will re-detect the encryption etc and should work.. (if its xp its on the wireless tab on the properties of the adapter)

you say WEP then say Passphrase, on most routers wep does not have a passphrase, wpa/wpa2 do...

Deleted it, then it did another search, found the network, put in a key popup appeared, put in the key, and eureka it worked! :), thanks!
