Long story short is I had to move in to shared house with me and 3 others, the exchange is enabled for fttc, however our cab is not, we are about 3-4km from exchange.

We can only get about 2.6mb at a push, only thing i have left to try is some SNR tweaks when I bring my old netgear along with DG team firmware on.

Its a talktalk connection by the looks, they are using a zyxel router, I did try with a non wireless dg834 but didn't get any higher than 2.5, problem is I like streaming now and again but I try and download most of my content on a VM setup at my old house which gets 70/17mb and transfer it to work. Bring it back on a usb drive

But some times there is a need to watch videos or download.

When he is on Netflix I'm barely getting 0.5mb

The zyxel has some bandwidth management via port and IP, iv dome some Mac reservations on his devices and tried to restrict port 80 and his 443 traffic a little but its either not making a difference or not working properly

Its doing my head in :(

Talktalk is the issue! Any chance of a change?

Looking at the ISP radius accout its @mypostoffice.co.UK

Trying to convince the landlady (who is not live in) to change to another ADSL provider will be hard! Even still they won't get more than 2.5mb, maybe 3.5 at a push, hardly worth it until fibre is here

I could get my own line but I don't want to commit to ADSL and line rental contracts to get a full 2-3mb for myself although that will be better than sharing.

Best I can hope for is try some snr changes as they are on a high snr, but long line!

As I don't own the account i can't ring them! So hoping I can adjust a little with dgteam

The master socket is by our front door, unfortunatly not in the best position, there is 1 x extension socket on the middle floor of the house, no other sockets they moved it but apparently were only getting around the same speed downstairs on master.

I took the master apart this morning to check for a bell wire

There are 3 terminals in the front face place of the master socket (its the newish style with BT openreach on)

5 -Blue stripe
3 - Solid Orange
2 - Blue

Im sure bell wire was orange or orange stripe, will check later

You're doing pretty much as well as you can expect (IMO) on a 64db attn. downstream line (http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php). But, I agree you could maybe tweak that downstream SNR a bit to give you a bit more - but it's not going to be much...

You also might be able to squeeze a bit more using one of the old BT business 2Wire routers (cheap second hand) - these are known to be good at handling high attn. lines - but again, you're talking very small amounts of bandwidth...

Edit: yes, the ring wire is orange/white: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm on to pin 3 - in any case, leave pins 2 and 5 connected.
