Behind you... Naked!
Been running Socket 775 until recently.

Short time back I got hold of an I3 and I gained teh ability to go silly RAM for cheap and I put up with a rubbish CPU knowing that I now had a better path to upgrade.

It was, like teh 775, a rock solid setup.

Now, I have just got another also rock solid setup of an I7.

So, the Mobo that the I3 was in is a much better Mobo. The RAM that the I3 had is much better too

So, I put the I7 and the Kingston RAM into the Asus board from the I3 and the I3 and the Generic RAM into the... Whatever the hell that board is ( Its from the Acer Aspire M5811 )

Now, the hell I have had to get Windows onto that has been .... Well... Hell to say the least, but its now in and its fine.

The i7 however, is an Asus P7H55-M with Kingston RAM and its awful.

It kind of hangs with a rapid noise when it plays a sound and loops - you know what I mean.

Its done this when playing a game, or watching a video and this morning I was greeted by a black screen but no noise.

There are no errors or anythign that will help me pin-point the cause?

I have tried various mixes of RAM and right now I am back on the 2x2GB Kingston and I am seeing how that goes.

Anything that I could also look for while I am here?

True.

My OCZ 700 failed me a few months back and I needed an emergency PSU so I got this 880w G7 PSU from crudlins.

Seems to have done a splendid enough job and so I forgot about it.

I will keep my eye one it and I think I will get a replacement for it sooner rather than later.

Its a good oPSU for the price and I have been happy with it, but it IS only a few months old so who knows what the long term will bring... I will move it onto one of my other ones that are not so demanding.

Out of curiosity how old was your OCZ PSU? I had mine fail after 18months but decided the shipping to Holland made it not worth the RMA.

Was rather dissapointed to be honest, Don't think ill buy OCZ PSU's again

i have the p7h55-m board,runs great with i3 540

you probably need to up the imc voltage (integrated memory controller) thats probably why its hanging

FlashHeart:-
Not THAT old at all. I had previously been running an OCZ600 in this and it went with a fair pop but it had done a good 3 or so years of hard work. Adding a 120GB Laptop drive to it to gett the files quickly took it over the edge it seemed.

I decided to stick with OCZ a I was happy with the 600 and I went for the 700 this time.

I had it for about 365 days and 4 seconds when it decided to drop trou' and lay one on the circuits, and a good mess it made of them too!

No, I gave OCZ a second chance with the 600 and this going on me now? Nope, thats mine and OCZs love affair well and truly over for good.

I have a good mind to post our private moments on youtube Im that upset by the swine.

Wazza300 :-
I got this board and it had the I3 530 in it.
Its been flawless with the I3
Its the I7 that its failing with.
Ok, I iwll have a peek at the Volts right now... See WTF gives.

Just one thought...

The Asus P7H55-M and the I3 530 that I have, are it seems Socket 1156

This I7 CPU I was under the impression, is 1155

What exactly is teh difference between 1155 and 1156 ( Apart from the obvious pin difference )

Or am I a moron?

Scratch that last one... I think thats a given.

Hmm... Possible cause and therefore solution?

Power Management!

Flag appeared, moaning about a driver with Power Management?

Followed link, installed software but it failed. Flag still comes up.

Went into power options, and disabled everythign from going to kip etc, also went into the BIOS to stop the CPU from piddling about.

Also I have kept it on 4 cores since its faster... Much faster for my needs with HT disabled.

Not given me any issues so far.

Ok, I have been utterly slaughtering the PC today and most of last night.

I wanted to find out exactly what mobo it was ( BIOS wont update and Im not entirely 100% sure of the board ) and I saw that one of the RAM sticks was not perfectly seated... It clicked in and so far, its been fairly rock solid... Couple of games have been jerky however, but none have actually hung yet.

Time will tell but I have also been tweaking the BIOS settings so who knows?

Oh balls.

Right, it failed the other day. I decided to just go out and buy a massive PSU. One that will more than cope with this setup and it has made ZERO bloody difference.

This PC has a new Everythign now.

I have even given it a full reinstall just in case and its made no difference at all.

The simple fact is that this board simply hates my I7

The board loves the I3 and the I7 is fine in the other board ( That board is close to useless however )
