As title really.

I like the 60D a lot on paper. And I REALLY like the D7000 on paper, but the overiding factor seems to be that when I pick up either camera, I always feel more comfortable with the 60D. I like the layout on the top of the 60D and it seems easier to find my way round the menus and controls.

My head says get the 60D, but my heart says the D7000!

Well I've usually been an advocate of whichever feels best to you but you should keep in mind the D7000 is in almost every way a superior camera...

Go for the cannon! You won't regret it :D

Really depends, the Nikon has better build and weather sealing, better AF and arguable a better sensor. The Canon does video better and, uh, has a tilty screen. The Canon isn't a bad camera but the D7000 is significantly better for not much more money. Depends what your priorities are.

it's such a difficult choice! whichever one i choose it'll be my first DSLR (coming from a Fuji bridge camera (S6500fd)) and i'm sure it'll represent a big step up.

pricewise...I can get the D7000 with the 18-105 VR lens for £980. The 60D with the 17-85 IS USM lens is £999

Coming from an ex-Olympus E620 user, the tilt Screen is a GODSENT, especially when you do low level, around the corner, macro or creative playing. I've done more creative angles and play with the E620 due to the screen, than I've ever on the Canon 40D.

That pushes me towards the Canon.

Just avoid the 17-85mm IS USM. You're better off with a fast but well priced zoom like the 18-50mm f2.8 Sigma/Tamron - second hand, less than £250. Just a more rounded walk around lens, despite losing some telephoto capabilities - you have legs, no? :p

I had the same conundrum but settled on the d7000. To be honest the canon seemed to sit better in my hand but that may have been down to never owning a camera so anything would seem odd.

Never regretted it. Yes the tilty swively screen wood be nice but and angled viewfinder will clip on.

Just dont by a batt grip from amazon. Even though its £180 and said Nikon it was still a fake

Had a similar choice a while back

Went for the 60D and never looled back.

Especially love the variable angle screen. Good for low angle or improvised shooting where the subject remains unaware. also great for tripod work as you can flip it out and adjust the angle to suit your working height

It is a tough choice, I always say to buy the camera that fits well in your ahnds and has a natural control lay out, I find most people prefer Nikons on this ground (like 60-70% will rpefer Nikon, 30-40% Canon).

The trouble here is the D7000 is such a better camera in every way (better body, better sensor, better high ISO performance, higher DR, better autofocus, weather sealing, much better kit lens) they are not even in the same ball park. I would look at the Canon 7D as a worthy competitor.

The tilty screen is useful for Macro or if you ike to put the camer almost to the ground and that is about it really.

I've recently bought the 60D and it's got a lot of features on it that make it well worth buying.

I have to say though, I'm a bit disappointed with a few things on it.

1) The dial feels like it could fall off at any time (though probably won't!)
2) It's smaller than my 30D which I prefer the feel whilst holding, over the 60D.
3) The noise handling on it seems very poor compared to the 30D, which I thought was a bit limiting, which prompted my upgrade, so I'm a bit annoyed at that. Probably due to higher mp, but haven't bothered looking in to this. It's a bit of a pain having to do noise reduction on pretty much every photo, unless it's extremely well lit. Initially I thought it was me doing something wrong, but taking photos with both cameras, it does seem to be related to whatever is different in the 60D. Not a major problem, but it bugs me that I've got an extra step in my processing now that wasn't there before.

Positives

1) It is quite resilient despite feeling cheaper than the 30D-50D cameras (and more like a Nikon due to it's size)
2) Flip out screen has come in very handy
3) Live view has allowed me to take photos that I couldn't previously
4) It still works after I dropped it rather heavily :D
5) Higher MP allows better cropping IF noise isn't an issue

Check out these comparisons testing the sensor,

The D7000 is in another league (2.5 stops more dynamic rnage is huge,a nd useful for most people), which would make me seriously reconsider my opinion of chooisng the cmaera that feels right. In your situation, I think I would buy the Canon 40D second hand. It has basically the same sensor performance and as far as I know the body is actually built better. I don-t know miuch about eh 40D but I hear a lot of people reccomending it.

A guy at work I went on a shoot with recently had a D7000 and the shots he got compared to mine (550d) were amazing. I can't say much for the handling but the image quality of the D7000 is quite something.

i think this also has to do with cost. The d7000 is considerably more expensive than the 60d so comparing the two is a little odd (though understandable) , it all depends on whether you think the £100+ difference is worth it. (imo no)

Price on the D7000 has dropped in the last few weeks, its now only about £20 more than the 60D.

Had a go of the D7000 at a Wedding this weekend (it was my Girlfriend's Uncle's camera)

I was really impressed with it, Im by all means no expert (and I do prefer Nikon camera's) but if i was making the choice I personally would go for the D7000.

That saying its down to the individual.

Im in the same boat. In terms on filming what would you say is better guys? I was thinking the D7000.
