Cant decide between Piledriver or I5

Thanks for the suggestions all.

Couple more for you.,

1) Is the RAM i have now bought totally wasted. I should have gone for something like 16gb of 1333mhz RAM

2) The Lynnfield I7's i found were : 860, 870, 875k and the 880. Any of those would do right ?

3) Is it worth perhaps getting another of my GPU's to run in CrossFire or get rid of my current one and get something else ?
3b) if i did get another of the same, does it have to be a Sapphire one or can it be an Asus of the same model ?

Also having a look around quickly, the Lynnfield I7s seem to go for around £100 unless i get one on bids

1. The ram is faster than officially supported by the Lynnfield, but you can probably overclock it (from 1333mhz) a bit and tighten the timings to get more out of it. Probably a bit of an overspend if you do stick with your 1156 board. No need for more than 8gb, if gaming is the main use.
2. yes
3. a second 270x would be ok but 2Gb Vram might limit you at very high settings, particularly if you game at higher than 1080p. I'd stick with what you have and see how satisfied you are with performance before deciding how to proceed. Probably would be better to sell yours and get a single R9 290 or GTX 780 than a second 270x
3b. Any 270x would work, but I suspect you may need to match clock speeds up to minimise microstutter

The Lynnfield i7s seem to go from £50 to £80 on auction, a bit more on buy-it-now, looking at sold prices.

What's the cost of your build? Also, get the 8320 and overclock it, not the 9370 if you go the AMD route.

If you're not considering more expensive options, it's probable that you're better off going for the 8320 and pumping the money saved into graphics card(s).

In the end i decided to get an a new I5 and motherboard. Not that i didnt consider wacking in a Lynnfield I7, just that i never know when i will get the money again, so i may aswel use it upgrade while i can.
