Getting SWMBO a new laptop for xmas. I have the HP 250 G5 with no full HD screen but with 256GB SSD for £349.
Or, there is the Lenovo ideapad 310 for £379 with full HD screen but no SSD.
Can't provide links, as they're both competitors.
If I were to get the latter, I would just get a 120GB SSD and convert the 1TB mechanical drive to a portable USB storage device. This would take the total cost to about £420, but she'd have FHD and a 1TB external drive for extra storage and would be useful for her work.
Basically, do I pay £30 more and get FHD and no SSD as standard, or pay less and lose screen quality? Some would say it's bad logic, but I'm actually leaning towards the latter as I think the FHD would be a lot better than the 1366x768 screen.
Both are almost identical spec otherwise: same 8GB RAM, same i5-6200U CPU, same lack of dedicated GPU (she doesn't game).
