So my current set up is a quad core amd cpu at 3.5ghz (OC)
8gb ram
and a 6950.

It runs bF3 at NEARLY ultra at around 30fps-ish.

Basically i want to be able to max out all games (So that it's better than next gen consoles)

So what card is best (I'm also going to get a 8350)

I either want to buy another 6950 and have crossfire,.. will that boost performance?
Or a 6990, but i hear that basically acts as crossfire thing, so it will still have the microstutter problems. And if not those cards, what others cards at the same price would you recommend? thanks.

I'll keep my on that in case it comes back

Another quick question if you don't mind, does the GB of a graphics card matter? People say the 680 is just as good as some of the higher GB cards from AMd. 2GB vs like 4 or6,.. doesnt sound right,.

Two 6950s will be a lot of power and heat.

Maybe sell your 6950 and get the £260 7970 on offer? You can get the 8320 instead of the 8350 and put that towards it.

The on board RAM of graphics cards only really matters if you are gaming on more than one monitor. So for 1080p on a single monitor, 2 GB is plenty.

Some people may argue that for future proofing you should buy cards with more on board RAM, but that's another topic.

Are you Me?!

I just asked the same question pretty much with the exact same setup currently!

Ha, must be a popular thing about now, with the next gen consoles and everything! :P 6950 ftw

Yeah i should have said in my original question,. if i don't get a second 6950, i would sell this one (even though it would fetch under £100 now)
I'll look into the 7970, although most people never seem to have just one from what i've sen, they always seem to have them in crossfire :/

Yeah i have two monitors, but only game on one in 1080p, the other is just for skype etc.
Well i only want to be able to max out games for now and maybe thenext 2 - 3 years. By then the next next next gen cards will outperform next gen consoles like double and be cheaper lol.

A 7970 in Crossfire is great for 2-3 screens - on one 1080p screen you can max out most games with one (not some like Crysis 3, you'd have to lower some settings).

You also get the benefits of the newer architecture, and the extra memory. I'd much prefer a 7970 over 2x6950 myself - if you want to spend less, the £190 7950 overclocked as far as it'll go :)

The 680 and 7970 seem to be the exact same price,. which one of the two would you recommend? :)

This late in the day I would wait and see what AMD have to offer in the 9 series cards.

Either wya i would'nt be able to afford it lol, a brand new graphics card would be like £500.

But just out of interest,.. when are they planning to reveal / release their 9000 series?

9000 series? 6,7...9?
What happed to 8?

I have a 7850 (in my sig) upgraded FROM a 6850. I'm thinking of upping again to get full glory on a 46" tv.
I only ever go single card and its always been enough for me.
Maybe for you, get a 7870 and clock the nuts off it?

edit: currently playing Crysis 3 with ALL settings on high with my 7850, no stutter or lag at all.

Some deals at the moment for sub £200 for 7 series so I would put 9 series cards at the 7 series 'old' price.

...l.

8 series cards were, oddly, for system builds and are already out. Just re-badged 7 series, makes no sense buy hey its AMD.

If you can wait another few weeks till the end of October, new AMD cards are supposed to be arriving. If nothing else, they will make current cards cheaper as stock gets cleared, or you could buy something better/faster from the new cards.
