Hi everyone, I'm new here, and new to PC building actually! I have a budget of around about £250. (I'm 13 and this is my own money, that is why it is quite low.)
I want to build my own computer, but I am completely overwhelmed with the amount of choice. This is what I though of getting:

- Intel Pentinum E5700 @ 3.00GHz
- MSI G41M-P28 G41 Motherboard
- Western Digital WD5000AADS 500GB Caviar Green
- Antec 450W PSU
- LiteOn IHAS124-19 DVD±RW Optical Drive
- 2GB Corsair DDR3 RAM

What does everyone think? Can you give me a better option?

I already have a copy of Windows 7 and a monitor, so I don't need that.

do you currently have a computer you can steal bits off of?

usually you can steal the hard drive (unless you want a bigger one) and the DVD drive

i can tell you that your going to make a major drop in performance if you go for anything cheaper than what jack has specced you

*edit*
oh, and what is the computer going to be for?

Go for the build Jack specced you, if you go with what you picked its not worth it.

If you cant go above £250 then look for the Coolermaster bundle only on competitor sites, and it will go down to £250.

i only have a laptop, so I cant really take anything from there. I'll only be using it for facebook, email, youtube, and maybe games on sites like miniclip now and again. i'll probablly use it for my school work as well, so I'll be using it for MS Office.

Cooler Master Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black (with 500w Elite Power PSU) £64.99

AMD Athlon II X3 Tri Core 450 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £59.99

Asus M4A78LT-M 760G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £49.99

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500413AS) £30.98

OcUK Value 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low-Voltage Single Channel Module £15.98

Sony Optiarc AD-5260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.98

Total : £249.92 (includes shipping : £10.00)

With 2GB RAM you can just about afford it, doesn't sound like your uses will use too much RAM anyway, can always get another 1-2GB down the line when you get some more money.

i know what it means, but nevermind what?

He was gonna say something and realised that what he said was wrong/invalid and so he deleted it, and wrote nevermind instead....i'm assuming:)

That build from Jack is probably the best you'll find for under £250. Make sure to keep note of the exact model of that RAM so if you have another £16 to spend in the future you can buy another stick and go dual channel 4GB.

*edit*
jacks 2GB build is probably better. far better to sacrifice 2GB ram than get a cheaper motherboard

with the price of DDR3 these days you could just sell the current RAM and get 4GB along with a fancy graphics card for ~£100 if you wanted to do some proper gaming
