Buying my new PC today/tomorrow but I can't decide which R280x's to get.

I'm after 2 in crossfire.

I'm wanting to watercool them at a later date and I think I read on here that they are bringing out an update of them?

I've been looking for full blocks and back plates but struggling. I'm also not sure on the best brand to go for. Eg: I've heard msi are cheaper components.

What are people going for?

Judging by the amount of mentions in various threads the one most seem to be waiting for is the Sapphire Toxic version.

Comes highly pre-overclocked and performs better than the rest as a result.

Has a very good cooling solution too.

7970 backplates and blocks will fit the 280X. I think the only 280X you won't be able to watercool is Sapphire's Toxic.

Personally I'd wait until Thursday to see what kind of performance the 290 will offer - particularly if you plan on watercooling. Obviously it won't offer as much performance as 280X in crossfire, but still.
