Its a toss up between a Q6600 and a E6750. I want to overclock which ever CPU I get, I've been informed the Exx50 range isnt brilliant at overclocking. Anyway My reasons for wanting the E6750 would be that its cheaper than the Q6600, it performs the same in Games compared to the Q6600, and It would still be a vast improvement from the AMD Opteron 146 I'm currently using. Also more to the point, it can "tide me over" until Intel bring out their Native quad core chips.

So not only would I like opinions, I would also like to know the overclockability of each.

Thanks in advance :)

I think I might do that, and wait for the New intel chip range? Is that the safe option :P

I just want to make sure I am going to notice a nice performance boost going from my DDR1 Amd Opteron 2.5GHz setup >_>, and making it slightly future proof.

If you want slightly future proof, get a P35 motherboard, a cheap Core2Duo as suggested and clock it to heaven. Then wait till the faster cooler Core2Quads come out next year and they will just pop in no problem.

I am intending on getting the gigabyte P35C DS3. With 2GB G.Skill ram. Now I've looked at some CPU prices and for £20 more it would be the E4400 for 2mb cache, is it not worth it? Is the lack of L2 cache going to affect my gaming FPS, my graphics card is a 7800GT.
