The i5 2500k is the best value cpu on the market atm without doubt but is the extra £100 (including mobo) over a x4 955 be worth it?

I could buy the i5 2500k and P8P67-M-PRO and and get a worse gpu but if I got a x4 955 I could put the extra £100 into something like a 6950.

What would be better for gaming?

1.Good cpu and a decent gpu
2. Decent cpu and good gpu.

Any advice would be great,

Thanks.

I would most likely overclock the x4 955 so maybe for a lower budget it would be a better option.

You could also overclock the 2500k ;p

Also depends on what Res screen you're running, if you're not using a massive screen you're not going to need an insanely powerful GPU

I think if you are willing to buy a stop gap card and save up for a better gpu the 2500k would be a good option but if not I definitely think the GPU is more important than the CPU in most games... I think an overclocked phenom is plenty fast enough for a 5850 or a 460.

If you're running on 1900x without 3D, 120Hz or multiscreen, I would say to go with a GTX 460, 5850 or 6850, and the i5 2500K.

Realistically, you aren't going to need any more power than those cards will provide, so a 6950 would be overkill.

The Phenom II x4 certainly is powerful enough to run modern games, and is acceptable on a budget (although I'd downgrade to an X4 840 for a much lower price tag and near identical performance), but the i5 is the way to go if you can.
