im look at the asus maximus gene v going to be using a i5 2500k and will be first time overclocking. mainly be used for gaming and editing photos and movies.

just wondering if there was a motherboard that would do the same for a cheaper price also looked at the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-229-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2261

any other suggestion or comments from people with these boards already would be gladly appreciated cheers guys

Cheaper price yes as good as the Gene overall?? Its a toss up. You need to decide your price and then we can make suggestions. The MSI is a decent board but no Gene. The Gigabyte UP4 TH is a great board but costs are more than the Gene. MSI M Power again a great board similar priced.

In the lower price category Giga Z77X D3H will save you abit of money.

at the moment id say limit is around 140-150 but if i can save some money then all the better, also thinking of running SLI if funds go the right way so the board will need to be able to do that as well

Id personally avoid a Micro ATX board if your planning for SLI because of lack of airflow between GPU's.

lack of space unfortunately means im limited to a matx system, i hadnt fully decided on it yet was weighing it up, want to get the motherboard sorted first so i know what im working with

So can you do m-atx only? Thing with the Gene (i have one) is that air cooling limits you to one gpu really so you would need watercooling to go for an sli/xfire setup. Picture below shows the issue with a large gpu heatsink, the cooler just about blocks the second slot.

If you can go for atx size then thats the best bet! Also a decent board from the likes of gigabyte like stulid suggested will not hold you back with your overclocking. The gene is nice but the clocking limits of a cpu are based more on how good the cpu and cooling is rather than the motherboard although it does help.

cheers for that input was very helpful :), im definitely going to be water cooling my rig when i start it.

my room is farily packed so the case needs to be able to sit on the desk easily so matx my maximum size for the time being, its a pain coz would love to have a mid or full tower.
