I'm currently trying to build a small file server using the Abit I45C board, a cheap PCI SATA card and 5 SATA drives, I've built systems using this board plenty of times and never had any problems, however I've never tried to connect more than 4 SATA devices to it.

The board it's self has 4 SATA ports, the PCI card I'm using has 2, if I have 4 drives connected to the motherboard and none to the PCI card all 4 are displayed fine, however when I connect an additional one to the PCI card one of the drives connected directly to the motherboard disappears (so I'll only have 4/5 detected) and connecting an additional one to the SATA card doesn't help either (still 4/5 detected, 2 on mobo, 2 on PCI card).

Any ideas on how to get more than 4 SATA devices detected?

Cheers

David

I've since bought 2 x 4 port PCI SATA cards, installed them, disabled the on board SATA card, but I can still only get 4 out of my 5 drives detected, has anybody experienced anything like this or have any ideas?
