Hi all

AUTOCHK/CHKDSK is scheduled for my pc on bootup, however, when trying to autochk it says cannot find chkdsk file blah blah and decides not to bother doing a chkdsk, continuing to boot windows.

I then try to defrag, and it says i cant defrag until i chkdsk, however i cant chkdsk as it wont let me.

How do i get around this pickle? Ive heard about doing regedit commands to disable chkdsk, i tired but it didnt work.

Any suggestions, maybe suggest the regedit again as i may have done it wrong, anything you can think of il try as the pc needs a defrag desperately!

Dont really want to be modyfying systems files unless your absolutely certain, sorry.. its just becuase ive lost my XP cd so cant correct if anything goes wrong!

Nope nothing wrong with my drive, havent formatted in like 3 years so i think just over time the file used for autochk/chkdsk has just become corrupt or lost/damaged. Not enitrely fussed about having the chkdsk feature, just want to disable it or whatever so im able to defrag!

Search you file system for 'chkdsk.exe' - it should live in system32.
