Prior to installing iTunes 7.7 I was able to drag new music from explorer into an iTunes playlist or the library. I could also drag artwork from firefox directly into the box. This functionality seems to have been removed now, is it working for anyone else and how can I get it back!!

What he said. Personally, I'd stick with 7.7 and look at using some third party tools to keep the library up to date.

Media Monkey works better than iTunes ever will once setup however you like it, it syncs with iPods (i know i use it for this) and iPhones (i haven't actually tried this myself). You should seriously look into it

Just for starters you can set it to monitor folders, so no more dragging into a program, just put your music in a folder. It also has a now playing playlist! iTunes has been missing this ever since it was devised! AutoDJ or Last.fm node works like party shuffle, but intelligently working with last.fm. That's just scraping the surface.
