Can't Extract .rar File Without Accessing C: Drive!

I've got a small SSD on my C: drive, 120GB.

I've got some large .rar files on my E: drive that I want to extract to another folder on my E: drive.

Should be simple enough, I thought. Open Winrar, create a folder and drag it over.

But now I've found that my C: drive has pretty much run out of space. The other day I had around 22GB of space left, before I started to extract these files I had 10.2GB left. I started to extract these files, and got an error saying I whad run out of disk space...and now I have 118MB left lol

I'm guessing that Windows 10 is using the C: drive as a temporary swap space of some sort - copying the stuff to be extracted to my C: drive temporarily and then moving it from the C: to my desired location on my E: drive, right..?

Tried running CleanDsk but it didn't give me my 10.2GB back. Had a look at my C: drive and can't see these files that are taking up so much space. There were some files in a Temp folder so deleted those but still not seeing my 10-20GB that appears to have gone missing somewhere.

Has anyone got any ideas..?

Many thanks in advance for any help! :D

You can probably specify the 'working folder', ie the temp folder that it uses when extracting.

In 7-zip, this is in Tools, Options, Folders.

I haven't used Winrar for about 10 years, so not sure where it is in that.

-edit, if you're running out of space, I'd highly recommend running this..

Then use this tool to quickly find out where your large folders/files are.

Very handy tool

If you simply drag the files from the winrar archive to your HDD drive, through windows explorer, it will use your C:/ (SSD) drive to copy it.

If you specify the exact folder in winrar, by selecting all the files you want to extract, then clicking "extract", then pointing it to the folder on your HDD, it will not use your SSD to copy it :)
