Can't figure this abstract thinking question out!

I'd say E for the dot one.

The black dot seems to move about two thirds the length of a side clockwise around the square each move, and the white dot seems to move one quarter length of a side anti clockwise each move.

So would I, however I don't think the drawings are accurate as it seems to move about 80% in the first two steps but less than that in the third step.

I wonder if we each take more time solving it than someone did drawing it :/

Even if Intel are putting these tests out it means nothing. Lots of companies buy into the psychobabble. Sadly if you want a job you'd struggle to put a big line through it and write "I do not participate in psychobabble".

It's definitely e, and for the reason given, although the white dot is moving a third eachtime, not a quarter. There are the corners and two positions on each side. Black moves two clockwise, White one anticlockwise.

i went with E too, but the way i did it was super imposing an 8x8 grid in my minds eye. Much this this:

Seems to be undeniably correct, as we aren't given any info that the dots can interfere with each other.

Yeah, the grid shows less movement in part 3 than the first two, which is what I thought. But it does broadly back what we are saying to the point where E is the right answer.

It appears to be a test of reasoning, which in my opinion is perfectly fine in a job interview. However they should have taken far more care to get the dots moving by the right amount in each step.

@ OP

I'd go B, seeing as everything on the top row is even numbers/sides, and bottom row is odd numbers/sides. (as I am counting the 'objects' and not the spikes on the objects as some people seem to be doing)

No it doesn't

Each time black moves two spaces clockwise around the perimeter and white moves one space anticlockwise around the perimeter.

Look closer. The grid was superimposed. If you put a grid on that was 20x20 rather than 4x4 you would see what I mean. The dots start at the edge of the box and travel to the center of the destination box.

I realised that was what you were talking about as soon as I posted... I'd guess it's a bad drawing, rather than the solution being incorrect.

Exactly! Which is why I was a bit disgruntled I ended up having to spend more time solving it than they did creating it.

Which somtimes (not this thread) is the way I feel about GD and SC. I spend far far more time responding to an idiot post than the idiot does just crapping their brain onto the keyboard. :)

when i saw this lunch time yesterday my first thought was D
i read a few of the posts about B and thought yea could be on to something
and even reasond that it could also be C
but looking at it again i would still chose D
as each shape would be random the number of shapes in the bottom half would = the sides of the previous block
but either way it is still a guess

I didn't know you posted this on OCuk :P I had 3 minutes to get the right answer guys :/ this test was a right bs....... I hope I don't have to do anything similar again.... stupid placements
