The only one that came close, was the Netgear WNR3500L, but this is a router only, so would have to get a modem too, and am trying to cut down on the amount of hardware I actually have... jsut want a one box for all!

What I do want:

ADSL2 modem
DD-WRT compatability
At least 4x Gigabit ports
USB port for priinter (dont need usb storage)
Wifi
VPN

Not much really is it? Any suggestions???

DD-WRT generally doesn't have support for modem routers so you'll have a hard time finding one device that fits all your needs. You'd probably be better off with a Netgear DG834GT modem or similar that supports DGTeam firmware, put it to modem-only mode and pair up with a Linksys router that should satisfy the rest of your needs. This way, you have the best of both worlds - ultra-customisable ADSL parameters and the same for your router.

What doesn't? It'll be his choice what router he decides to use, and higher-end Linksys models (as well as the one listed in the OP) have USB ports.

After hunting around and doing abit of research, im gonna stick with my ISP modem "bebox", and grab the Netgear WNR3500L (will I live to regret thhis choice.. who knows... but it does seem to be considered as one of their better routers!!!).

USB ports on routers, seem to be mainly for shared storage.. but Im damn sure read/write speead to any attached devce will be shockingly slow. I even think home user NAS boxes are ridiculously slow with gigabit stated models getting barely over 100mbps throughput due to onboard processing power, or rather the lack of it... Id hate to imagine what sort of speeds a router with usb har drive attached to it could struggle to achieve!!! Anyway, Ive not actually seen many choices that have a usb for printing purposes, which would seem far more useful, but, there has been success using dd-wrt, so Ill give that a go...

Thanks for your input....
