I have tried a few software and not found one I am happy wiv but wonder what you guys use

What I want to do is resize and make a image more friendly to download. As want to upload some photos to flicr

Have you tried gimp? I seem to remember some people recommending you it a while back, so I'll assume you have. If you don't like that then I'm not sure to be honest, I found iphoto did a fair job, so I don't really know what to recommend, you certainly seem picky :P
Maybe grab a trial of Photoshop Elements, and see if you like that?

I don't use iphoto much, but to resize a pic to say 800x600, go to the constrain bit, go to custom, put in 800x600, then you drag a box that'll stick to those proportions, crop it, and the result will be 800x600. Bit cack-handed, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a better way of doing it but it works fine.

If that's all you want, I'd stick with iPhoto and gimp, if you want to do more you'll just have to shell out for something better. Although having said that gimp's meant to be very powerful if you learn it. Most good graphics software needs learning, so just stick with gimp perhaps and weather the learning curve?
