Hi.. i have an asus 5738DZG-444G32Mn that currently has 2x2gb DDR3 in it and im considering upgrading to 6 or 8GB

Ive looked around on the net and for some reason every mention of this model of laptop has DDR2 listed as the ram type... but mine is deffinately DDR3!!

The model number on the bottom is Aspire 5738DZG-444G32Mn model number MS2264

I would rather not buy a 4gb module only to find its incompatible!

The current memory is 2 sticks of Hynix 2gb DDR3 with model number HMT125S6BFR8C-G7

So your question is?...

Also, you mean acer and not asus right? The aspire is made by acer, and your model number matches an acer machine.

Anyway, I just used the configurator on the crucial site, and this came out:

Your Aspire 5738 (DDR3 Models) System Specs
System specs as shipped by the manufacturer.
Scan your system to view your specific system configuration.
Memory:
DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-8500

Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-8500, DDR3 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 8GB
Slots: 2
Each memory slot can hold DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-8500 with a maximum of 4GB per slot.*

ooops yes acer sorry... been messing with an asus gfx card all day must have stuck in my mind :p

I would think it would support 8GB going from what you said. Its just that every thing i saw said 4gb ddr2 maximum. Since posting i found one referance to my model number being sold with 4gb of DDR3 but it didnt state max supported memory. Its a GM 45/47 chipset so intel site suggests max of 8GB also.

Guess i will throw caution to the wind and order 2 sticks :p

Do what I did. Go on the crucial site and use their memory checker. There it has two options for your model number- dd2 and dd3 model.

They are also a pretty good supplier which lots of people swear by...
