Can't find the problem :(

I've just bought a new system, e6750, abit ip35 and 4gb of ocz ram.

I managed to install vista 64 ok after but only after loading 'fail safe defaults' in the bios.

When I load the optimised defaults, I get to the screen where you can choose to start windows normally, safe mode etc. When I push enter on any of these, the system just hangs.

Weird thing is when I load back fail safe defaults, it works. I've checked through the bios and can't find anything that is causing this problem, I've checked ram and it seems fine. :(

Doesn't seem to be the problem, just tried entering in timings and voltage and same problem.

If I start in safe mode, it loads about 10-15 drivers then just restarts so I can't see what it stops on. I'm sure it's something conflicting. I had the same problem when I was trying to install vista. It would load the cd but then hang with a black screen. It is a black screen, it doesn't go into power saving mode, just stays with a black screen.

I'm using this ram: http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-086-OC

graphics card is x1800 pro 256mb (connect3D)

cpu is the e6750

MB is the abit IP35 (not the pro)

got a seagate HD, 7200.10 i think

and a pioneer ide dvd drive, though tested without this and still doesn't work.

I've checked device manager and everything seems fine.

Why do you think it is a ram issue? It seems to hang in the same place everytime, so it looks like some sort of driver issue?

Cheers for your help. I'm using the full catalyst drivers at the moment as tray tools didn't seem to like vista 64.

Event viewer looks quite interesting. Claims to have had...1296 errors in the last 24hours!!!Hmmm

Will it log errors on startup? I'll have a go now and see what it brings up.

Ok I think I've located the problem - usb drivers.

If i disable it in the bios, then it seems to work. Problem now is that I don't have usb! Irritating

Here we go - in bios there was an option 'USB keyboard support via...' . It was set to Bios, so changed it to OS and now seems to work. Thank god, was starting to irritate me!
