cant find vista computer on xp computer

hi. i have a xp professional computer downstairs and my vista pc upstairs. i have shared a load of files on my vista computer and i cant find them on the xp pc. the xp pc is connected to the modem wired downstairs and my vista is connected to it via wireless. i cant even see the vista pc on the xp pc.

i can see the xp pc on the vista one upstairs.

any help would be appreciated

Is the Vista firewall on, and is is allowing File and Print sharing?

sharing is allowed and i have turned off the firewall

have you got user accounts on both machines with the same passwords? this solves pretty much all windows related file sharing problems.

also dobule check the network settings in vista (right click the network icon in systray) and make sure it's a private network with the sharing options turned on. i know from past experience, that some settings here may inexplicably reset themself.

... ive had this problem loads of times ........ make sure the work group name is same on both comps ,if not then formatting the winxp or changing a setting on the vista helps like above ..........

it will be nothing to do with the winxp firewall .....

I have had something like this before where it wouldnt show up. I justed typed //Othercompname in and it found it.

Not sure if this is any help at all.
