hi,

i am running a gigabyte ma790fx ds5 motherboard with a phenom II [email protected] and 4gb kingston hyper x memory rated at 5-5-5-15.

i cant see to get my system to run stable at 1066, any timmings or voltages i have tried following kingstons instructions to the letter.

but everytime i switch to 1066mhx the systme blues screens within around a few minutes depending on what i am doing.

i can run my system at 800mhz on spd and it runs fine.

so was just wondering if anybody has had any issues with this brand of board and memory combo. and if so did anybody manage to work out some good settings. because i cant.

not sure if i have missed somthing stupid but i dont think so. i emailed kingston but they just gave me an email directing me to loads of instructions that i have already read.

one thing i have noticed is that when running at 1066 the memory gets hot to touch.

so personnally i reckon theres somthing wrong with it but kingston tell me that its fine because it runs at 800.

I have Kingston 1066. No problems.

At those timings, have you set your DRAM voltage to 2.3v?

Have you ran Memtest to eliminate Faulty Sticks?

Reading the specs on your Mobo, I found this....

"(Note 2) Whether 1066 MHz memory speed is supported depends on the CPU being used."

Have you checked this out?

memory

you have to have a phenom II for the board to be able to use 1066 mode.

i have run some memory programs and they found no errors.

the board does not quite do 2.3v it does 2.25 which is the closest. i think that was as high as it goes. which could be a problem but i am pretty sure it should be able to do 5-5-5-18 at 2.1 volts.

thats why i was hoping that sombody else would have had the same setup and been able to point me in the right direction.

if all else fails i think i will just upgrade to a ddr3 board and memory. but as that will cost 250+ quid i would rather just get mine running at 1066.

i have tried it at 2.2 and 2.25. it the next setting is 2.35 i am too scared to try 2.35 with out a memory cooler.

i was thinking maybe try 2.2 and up the timmings to 6-6-6-18 or somthing until i get it stable.

i had the same problem with an asus mobo and ocz ram, when the mobo died i got a dfi 790fx and it runs @1066 fine. it might be your mobo holding you back.

well i have braved it and gone for the 2.35 volts, i'll see what that is like for a couple of weeks hopefully it will work and not kill the ram.

I have 8 gig of that memory in a ma790x-ud4 with a PHII 720 black and it runs at 1066mhz with 5-5-5-18/ [email protected] and the CPU NB VID CONTROL volts set to +0.025v, no idea if that helps you but you never know.
