Anyone able to offer some advice on my situation.

So i bought an OCUK system not long ago, but found that for the work i do, 3D animations, the ram was running out so bought another 6gig of the same. Now i didnt even look in the box, i just assumed as with any other computer ive ever had, installing the ram wouldnt be a problem.

So received the ram yesterday and opened it up, then opened the case and noticed that the cooler actually sticks out over where the last stick of ram should be. I wondered if i could squeeze it in but it would mean it would be either pushing the cooler off to one side or pushing the stick of ram next to it. Neither of which i was too happy about.

But i contaced ocuk about returning it and have been told because i opened the box, i cant return it. Surely that cant be the case, or is it?

while they are technically right, it sucks that it was a system you bought off them so the cooler they stuck in blocks a port. Did you phone them or email them? Might be worth trying again and speaking to a manager etc and explain the whole situation, and if they wont take anything back ask if you can get a voucher or some money off a new cooler?
Have you looked at it and seen if you cna just turn the cooler round 90 degrees, as this sometimes changes the clearance?

Is it a case of the type of RAM you have has really high heat sinks on it or something as most CPU coolers will easily clear normal height ram.

Depends how you bought the RAM. If you ordered online then you are covered by
DSA and have every right to return the RAM for a full refund. Doesn't matter if you opened the box or not.

Go back to them and say you are returning it under DSA. As long as it's within 7 days of you receiving your order they can't refuse.

I thought as coneypark did that it would be covered under DSR. It even says that youre allowed to open the product to inspect it which is exactly what i done.

The ram does seem very tall compared to ram ive had in older computers so that may well have something to do with it.

Find the customer services forum at the bottom of the forums and post in there - you will get a responce from them there better

Well Ive got it sorted though i'm not very happy the way things have went.

I phoned them up and asked why i was told i couldnt RMA when the DSR state that the consumer is entitled to freely open the package if they so wish, as long as they dont damage the product, which is the opposite of what i was told via webnote which was that if the seals are broken i cant return it.

The guy simply said all i had to do was send another webnote saying it is getting returned through DSR and it'll go through no bother.

So of course despite knowing i was entitled to send it back I was told differently in the hope i didnt know about my rights. I've spent a lot of money in ocuk ovre the years as has my father so its dissapointing to be in this situation.
