Hi all,

I'm currently running my E6600 at 2.88Ghz as seen in the top left image using CPU-Z. My RAM is running at 800Mhz and I'm running at 2V, although CPU-Z seems to be reporting 1.8V!!!

OCUK.gif

The problem I'm having is I wanted to set my chip to run at 3.15Ghz, so I brought my RAM speed down to about 753Mhz hoping that it would be stable, wrong!!!

So I thought I'd try and stress the RAM, keeping with 2.88Ghz, I changed my RAM settings from AUTO to DISABLED (by default it reports this) :-

5 4 4 15 4

DRAM ECC = DIS
Hyper Path 3 = DIS
DRAM Throttle = AUTO

PEG BUFFER = AUTO
LINK LATENCY = AUTO
PEG ROOT CONTROL = AUTO
PEG LINK MODE = AUTO
SLOT POWER = AUTO

I'm running G-SKILL PC2-6400 4x1Gb modules and I can get above 800Mhz with it, so I'm assuming my RAM is letting my overclocking down, is this right? Can I push it in any other areas?

cheers

No takers?

The only thing I haven't tried is adjusting the FSB termination voltages etc... As I have no idea what is safe to take these upto, and would they help with the FSB going above 1281Mhz? Oh I'm currently running at about 52deg under full load...

Hmmm, try settings the RAM timings to 5-5-5-15. Then set the FSB to 333x9, you may need a little bit of voltage, my E6600 likes a bit of juice. Keep the RAM at it's default speed, is 1.8v the max they'll take? A lot of RAM is rated at 2.1V.

Cheers Rackerz,

I'm currently running as you suggested and done a few render tests but nothing too stressful just yet! So the higher the figure with the RAM timings is loosening right? I might push a little further at some point and will post here if successful :)

Have a look on the G.Skill website for rated timings and voltages for you ram.

Run your ram 1:1 with the CPU, this way the ram wont get overclocked and will be at its rated speed.

Then increase your voltages, anything upto 1.55 is sound but just watch your temps. The Q6600 should easily be able to hit 3.2 or above. Also, increasing the NB voltage sometimes helps to stablize the system.

Thanks again Rackerz,

As for the OC, I can't get it above the 3Ghz mark!!! I'm quite content with 3Ghz anyway, at the end of the day it seems to be 100% stable :o)

@Thermalttake,

I have no idea how to get the RAM to run @ 1:1, I've read the basic clocking guide and I can't seem to get my head around it, I will one day I'm sure, I'm just a little slow today!!!

cheers all
