Hope i've explained this ok

I have just installed winxp64 on a seperate partition, however when i try to connect to the net,i'm getting nothing.

I'm connected using the onboard lan on my mobo & its showing in the device manager as marvel yukon 8010 pci gigabit ethernet controller,so that seems to be working ok

It's also showing as connected in the Network connections in the control panel as well  When i pull the cable from the modem it's seeing the cable is unplugged as well,so i figured everything seems to be working ,apart from no net access

What am i doing wrong here ? I don't really have a clue :o

Any help would be great

I'm using a motorolla sb4100 modem,not a router.As you can probably tell,i don't have much of a clue here

I thought it would be just a case of plugging my modem into the mobo & the rest would take care of itself.
I did'nt install modem drivers though. I'll have to see if i can find some

I'm using a netgear pci card to connect just now,but XP64 won't recognise it,so that's why i'm trying to connect this way

Thanks

Rob

Any suggestions on a router mate ? I have a 4MB blueyonder connection

Been to Planet 64,no luck there either :(

Easy with the talk of new routers, its very premature for that!

Rob43, let me just check that I understand the situation

1. You are dual booting

2. You are on Cable internet

3. You connect to your cable modem via ethernet.

If I’ve got all that right then hopefully this will all be relevant 

First I would boot back into your old OS, plug the modem back into your netgear NIC, does the internet work ok? I’m guessing it will (in fact it is probably how you are posting :D).

Still in your old OS, does it work with the onboard network card?

Correct on all points mate :D Just tried to get it working with the onboard network card with my old OS & no luck :( So i must be doing something wrong here......am i not ?

I just can't get my head around internet stuff(modems, routers etc)

here's what coming up with the onboard network switched on,so the onboard is showing in the device manager & i have drivers installed as well
