Hi,

I am struggling to get my Dual core 3.4Ghz passed 3.5 Ghz. I am currently using the Gigabyte EasyTune 5.0 for the tweaking.

When I go into advanced mode, I can successfully tweak my CPU to 3.4Ghz to 3.49 - 3.50 Ghz, but the second I increase the fsb by one more it crashes...the system won't allow me to get passed 3.5 Ghz.

Currently my CPU is at 35 degrees at stock, 38 degrees at 3.50Ghz.

Anyone have any ideas how I can OC my CPU further?

(Full specs in Sig)

Check the PCI bus is set to 33/66, perhaps increase the timings on the memory, or change the multiplier, so the ram is running slower than the cpu.

You need to rule out the motherboard and ram from the equation so you can work out how far you can push the cpu. Once you know the limits of the CPU you can start tuning the settings for memory and motherboard.

(Do this in bios, and throw away the easytune rubbish)

Find out what the temps are load not idle, and OC using the BIOS not a windows program.

Also your PSU isnt all that good, so depending on what graphics cards you are using this may be why.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, most appreciated. I will go and try and OC the mobo from BIOS.

I will give some feedback after I have tried.

The memory might be holding you back, reduce the MHz of your RAM or you can try increasing the memory voltage a little bit.

I tried to look in the bios, but there are no options to OC...except for this weird optimiser, which seems not to do anything but cause the computer crash even if I touch it once....

When I used to use my old Asus mobo, OC'ing was easy and there were easy options in the bios to do it...there are no similar options in my current mobo, except by selecting pre-selected levels like cruise/turbo/full-throttle etc And even by selecting one of the options, it still doesn't OC the CPU...I still have to overclock in the OS.

I have also tried to use clockgen, but everytime I go passed 3.5Ghz, the CPU speed resets.

Seems like my OC'ing ambition is doomed!!! :(

This is the max I can go:

if your useing a gigabyte motherboard then i take it you are pressing CTRL and F1 when in the bios to acctivate the hiden overclcoking fuctions

lol, I never knew that..im gonna go test it!!!!

dont quote me on it as just realised yours is a pentium board but on my amd gigabyte board i have to use that to get in to my overcloking fuctions

Amazing!! I got a new option called "top performance" which I have selected and enabled.

And I also get a new option for changing the timings for my RAM which is cool too! - although im not too familiar with changing RAM timings.

Still have not got the control for the FSB yet..I will try and use EasyTune again...

The CPU voltage looks very low, se if you can raise it slightly in the BIOS.

I will try that as soon as I am back from work :) I will let you know the results of the tweaking as soon as I do it.
