Hi, just got one of these and tried it in my Abit ab9 pro, recognizes it fine but i cant get it stable past 375mhz x8 = 3ghz, anyone reckon this is a limitation of the board?

These chips dont seem to need much voltage and i thought i was in luck when it booted first time 450mhz at stock volts, orthos fails in seconds tho, no amount of voltage to any part of the system seems to help this.

My e4300 maxes out at 350mhz x9 = 3.15ghz on this board but it needs 1.55v and the northbridge maxed out, my ram is cool up to 1ghz so its not that letting me down.

Suggestions?

Get a p35 board? ;)

Would help to know what board too ;) 375-380MHz however is where a lot of older 975x and 965p boards in my experience tend to flake out as well.

What adjustments have you made to the motherboard voltages? Any changes on the Northbridge or Southbridge?

installed my e6750 last night is ok @380fsb will do some tests in next hour see what she can do and report back to see of it helps :o

looks like its the board @390fsb after that all hell breaks out blue screens and missing windows files errors :( even with extra northbridge and southbridge voltage and cpu volts up to 1.4 i know my ram is good for more so gotta be mobo i think as i think i have pretty decent cooling as well.
me personelly not too bothered as i dont want to purchase a new mobo right now until the new ones show massive performance increases, but is a shame ...

Sounds identical to my situation, no amount of northbridge or cpu voltage helps it, I need to make a choice between getting a p35 motherboard or getting an older cpu, its a shame cos i only bought this abit board last week.

As it is i've put my e4300 back in for now as it clocks better due to the 9x multi.

My ram is Geil 6400 c4, should be capable of a reasonable overclock with it.

Just glad i didnt pay for the cpu as i swapped it for a e6600 sadly what looked like a reasonable deal has turned into a white elephant :( ah well you live and learn :p

*bump*

Anyone else with AB9 experience? I need to make a choice and i really expected this board to get past 400mhz, seems odd that it will boot at 450 but its not stable till i drop it below 375, doesnt it seem odd that you can push it 100mhz past it's stable speed without it locking up on boot?

Either way can anyone recommend a good p35 board?

Those gigabytes seem to be getting good reviews but ive heard bad things about gigabyte's quality control.

Anyone?

Drop the multi to find out if it is the limit of the CPU or the motherboard. Run the RAM at 1:1 so you're not overclocking that.

Also what is this about 450FSB? Some boards do have FSB islands.

I had a go dropping the multi on my e4300 but it doesnt seem to like it as it wont go past 350mhz, might unwrap the e6750 when i get home and give it another go, running out of arctic silver tho

When i did try the e6750 it booted with no problems all the way up to 450mhz but fails orthos within seconds, gave it 1.6v and maxed out the northbridge but it made no difference to stability.

I'm no expert but it seems odd that this board cant get past 375 when other boards of the same class can but maybe thats just my bad luck

It'd be nice to hear from a few more people with the same board, thanks all the same.

Why would someone swap cpus unless they were making a good deal? Like it doesn't overclock well or somthing?

yeah i know no need to rub it in hehe ;)
might not be so bad a deal if i bought a new mobo though :p
