Can't get GTA IV to run

Yes yes yes - I know it's not the greatest game ever, but the damn thing won't run.

I can get to the final loading splash screen, but it just seems to hang and then stops working. Bloody thing.

Windows 7 - reasonable spec system. Any ideas?

Update drivers?

Are you using steam? If so, verify the game cache.

Make sure the game is patched up to date.

I know if you do not update GFWL it can cause crashes so try that.(there was an update this week or so that was important for games using it)
