Hi guys,

Had a real dreadful day today as far as computers are concernced...

Been trying to transfer my mobo/cpu over to a new case, but the mobo wouldn't earth properly and would only power up in certain places, eventually i ended up blowing the board...

So i'm now onto my old mobo/cpu which is a Gigabyte GN-7400 with an AMD Sempron 2400+, it powers up fine. However, it doesn't allow me to get into Windows. I see the XP loading screen for a second and then the system restarts itself every time, same for same mode...

I'm thinking the HDD might have been damaged when the board blew but i'm pretty certain it wasn't connected...

Anyone any ideas as to the problem? Really don't want to format!

Many thanks.

EDIT: Running the absolute minimum I can aswell....Mobo/CPU/Memory/GPU/Mouse/HDD. Cheers

Any LiveCd (puppy linux) or memtest to test the memory via floppy of usb stick.

OR

Take everyting out of the case and reassemble the system, double checking everything as you go

its because you changed the m/b so the chipset has changed so windows wont boot it just restarts on a constant loop.

you can try repairing the windows installation or a fresh install.

I agree, assuming this isn't already a fresh install in which case, I reckon its dead Jim! ;)

Definitely a windows and new hardware issue, happened many times to me - windows thinks the Hdd has been copied onto another machine and the copyright blah kicks in. Only way is a fresh install, pain but I havent found another way around it (and done it a few times now!)
