Cant Get My 4400 Any Higher

Iv been clocking up my 4400 after resitting the scythe and reducing temps by 15C so giving me plenty of head room to overclock. But iv eben having trouble it seems to just not want to go higher, I havnt got a clue what is stopping it.

Temps are runing in the 30's on the CPU, 39 on PWMIC and 45C on Chipset on a standard boot into windows after about 20minutes.

At cold boot its about 23,25,30

Spec:

4400
DFI Expert
Corsair XMS Pro 3200
6800GS Extreme
Seasonic 600W
Samsung Spinpoint's

Ive managed 2.45Ghz with 245x10 and a divider on the RAM that takes it out of the equation and using slack timmings. I was using a Vcore of 1.50 not sure if it needed all of that but its prime stable on both cores at the same time.

When going higher it seems to just not want to boot into even the BIOS.

At 250x10 it doesnt boot and I gave the vcore 1.55v just to make sure it would boot. But it didnt it just looped around booting the BIOS. Then tried 1.65v and same again.

I got down to the 2nd or 3rd LED then it stopped and started to boot again. Im pretty sure its not ment to do this thought it just put you back in BIOS if it doesnt boot.

4 LEDs on = Power applied, checking CPU
3 LEDs on = CPU has been detected OK, checking RAM
2 LEDs on = RAM has been detected OK, checking VGA
1 LED on = VGA has been detected OK, entering BIOS
0 LEDs on = System has booted to the Operating System.

Iv not updated the BIOS could that be it?
Do the SATA ports on this board not lock? ports 1-4
Does the PCIe slot lock?

I dont think the 4400s are as good clockers.

I can get 2.6 it think. and thats as far as i can go

What volts and temps.

I have got 2.65 on the DFI SLI-d before this is why im comfused.

volts.. 1.455 and the temps were like 45Idle...

i like mine sitting pretty at 37Idle so i have it at 2.3Ghz x 10 (230mhz mem)

Thanks for that it seems my CPU eats more volts that other CPUs iv looked up on google at 2.7

You wont need 1.5v through it like for 2.45Ghz

True I was just making sure in the end wasnt I :rolleyes:

The ones on google iv seen use RAM thats way above PC3200 could this be the key even though I used a divider.

doubt it.. depends if the ram is getting pushed further than 200MHz at anytime you try and overclock.

Also the LDT link thing... HTT whatever it is called.. I dunno.. something that is default at 1000mhz... or it can be represented as x4 for example

x2, x3, x4, x5

that needs reducing before overclocking otherwise that can cause a crash.

Oh yeh forgot to say about that, its at x3 just to make sure its out the way.

Oh and i also forgot to say when it crashes before BIOS I have to reset CMOS before it turns back on. its never done this before normaly it just get to "Back Up CMOS" text after BIOS has booted and if it doesnt work it reboots.

Most i have managed on my 4400 is 2.64ghz but when listenng to music in winamp it freezes for about a couple of milliseconds every 2 minutes or so, didn't really have any affect on performance but i didn't like it. Sounded like a cd skipping, also the same thing happened in games, and if it came at a critical moment it was very annoying so now im at 2.4ghz.

So do you think its a lost hope and I should sell on my 4400? and mayb get an opty?

depends on how much your want to overclock

The later week 4400's clock well (week 42 onwards roughly, 2005). Mine is an 0546SPAW stepping hits the speed in sig with only 1.49v. I think you may have one of the week 30 or 20 or even 10 4400's which really didn't clock well.

It not a matter of just wanting to overclock but needing more power to encode videos I dont have that much time these days.

Tbh i'm not too bothered about overclocking it too much because the performance is blazing to start with, Video Encoding = :eek:
