Hi all

Recently put together a new build, when everything's connected together, I just get a constant beep from the mobo.
I tried removing all the components except the PSU, power switch and the PC speaker (obviously!), and there are no beeps, noises etc. As soon as I install the CPU, the board beeps like crazy again.

I am assuming its a fault with the CPU or mobo.

Before I RMA the board, is there anything else I should check for/try.

CPU is a X2 4600, board is a mATX Foxconn.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

You need memory to pass POST.

Bear in mind that the problem is "memory related" and may not be the memory at all.

The memory controller for AMD, for example, is located on the CPU itself. Try changing the memory in different bank combinations, single sticks at a time, just to eliminate the CPU or the memory. I got the same bleeps on a simular system.. turned out to be the "B" memory controller on the CPU failed.

Try removing the battery for a few mins, see if that helps.

Also, I had my mobo beebing lots on startup a few days back......turned out that the PCIe power cable had fallen out

Right, seems like I have defective memory banks on the mobo. Any ram inserted in banks 2+4 causes the mobo to beep. Will RMA the board.

Thanks for all your help gents!!

It may be the memory controller on the cpu though, i had a similar problem on an asus 939 board recently were i got beeping in banks 1 + 3

Yeah, the CPU may still be the culprit, as it will only run in single channel mode only when in banks 1+3. I think I need banks 1+2 or 3+4 for dual channel mode.

But at least if I RMA the board and the new one does the same thing then I can assume the CPU is b0rked.

Do you read your responses?

Anyway, don't RMA the board unless you are certain it's faulty.. You could end up paying testing costs and the postage back again.
