Just plugged my 5850 into my pc, already have a 4870 installed. Can't get my pc to recognise the new card, installed the drivers, still nothing. What could be wrong?

I could have misunderstood this:

"already have a 4870 installed"

Are you trying to add the new card to another slot whilst still keeping the 4870 in also?

Yeh I was trying to add the new one Eilat still having the old one in. I have now removed old one, only have new one plugged in but nothing comes up on the screen when connected to hdmi output or dvi output. Haven't tried the Other output on it.

right, just took the card down my local pc shop where i visit a bit and the guy there reckons the card has water damage. Hows that possible when i havent got it near water and its new out the box. Am i going to have difficulty sending this back because overclockers are going to think its my fault. This situation is lame.

water damage, that is harsh! Speak to OCuk and see what they say failing that you could whip out the heat gun and give it a bash. I would be very supprised to see water damage on a bran new card though. Seems very odd.

alright gave them a ring, he reckons that residue is left on the pcb but its not water damage, just a broken card. going to send it back. thanks for everyones time.
