Hi guys,

Been browsing the forums for ages so i finally decided to join.

Anyway, i've been trying to get my Q6600 G0 stable at 3ghz, which is basically my target. My full system is :-

Q6600 G0 cooled by a titan amanda TEC
EVGA 680i A1 P30 BIOS
2 x 1gb Cellshock 4-4-4-12 PC6400 (2.1v - 2.2v)
2 x BFG 8800GTX
2x 160gb, 1 x 500gb, 1x 150gb raptor
2 x DVD drives
Enermax Infiniti 720W
Windows XP 32bit.

My idle temps at stock are 29/30/30/30 and load is 45/45/45/45 according to the latest version of Lavalys EVEREST, so temps aren't a problem.

I can easily boot into windows at 9x333 with 1.35 Vcore in the BIOS. I have the ram set to unlinked and is at 800 and left the timings on auto and set the memory to 2.1v and all the rest of the voltages are set to auto. When i run Prime95 blend it fails within 5mins. I have tried upping the Vcore to 1.37v in the BIOS, but it still fails,. I think it maybe something to do with my RAM as i cant even set them to their rated timings without Prime failing within minuites or sometimes seconds. I never had any RAM problems on my old 680i revision before i did an RMA.

Sorry if i sound like a noob at all this, but i do know all the overclocking basics, but im not an expert and sometimes need help, so any help from you guys is very much appreciated, thanks :).

i think your northbridge needs more volts possibly i had a similar issue.

can you post us all your volt readings plz

Your best to keep your RAM linked on the 680i as performance can be flaky with it unlinked.

Have you got the fan fitted to the NB?

Thanks for your reply guys. Ok i have linked the RAM and using sync mode which under clocks my ram at the moment and the ram timings are set on auto at 5-5-5-15-2t. I have the fan fitted on the NB at 100% all the time.

Here are all the volt readings as follows:-

CPU core = 1.35v
CPU FSB = auto (1.4v)
memory = 2.1v
nforce SPP = auto (1.25v)
nforce MCP = auto (1.5)
HT nforce SPP-MCP = auto (1.2v)

Thanks.

More vcore would be my first suggestion. Also take the FSB, MCP and SPP off auto and give them some more as well.

There's an option on my 650i board that needs to be turned off to get past 2.8/3Ghzish. Go to advanced bios features, CPU features and press f4. There should be a new option - you can 'loose' it again by pressing f4 again. I think this is eist.

But fundimentally search the internet for a guide on overclocking with that board. Turn all the options off that you can - like that spectrum thingy.

I worked out which ones I could turn off through reading and trial and error.

I tried taking the voltages up a little, but still no joy. I tired backing down the clock to 2.7ghz with:-

CPU core = 1.35v
CPU FSB = 1.5v
memory = 2.2v
nforce SPP = 1.5v

the other two voltages i set to auto and it loaded into windows fine. I ran Prime for nearly 1 hour and then stopped it without any errors. But i've found that if i go past 2.8ghz with the FSB off auto with it at either 1.4v or 1.5v, it will just not boot into windows, but if its on auto it will boot into windows fine.

maybe your right about a option needing to be turned off, but i can't see anything else that i can turn off. I have disbaled most if not all of the limiting features - spread specturm settings, speedstep, C1E., not sure what else i can do, maybe it just doesn't want to clock to 3ghz :(.

Thanks.

You may simply have a poor clocking cpu. Mine maxxes out at 3.2ghz which, really, is quite pathetic compared to the other guys on water. Which batch is yours?
